You are invited to join us for a forum on empowering Bedouin Women in Israel which will also look at BGU’s unique experience in advancing women in science. We are honoured that this event will be chaired by UBC Professors Adele Diamond and Judy Illes. Our special guest will be Dr Rania Okby – Israel’s first female Bedouin physician.
The remarkable story of a remarkable woman, Dr. Okby will share her unique journey to becoming a renowned physician specializing in multiple births and high-risk pregnancies. In Israel, Dr. Okby serves on staff at Soroka Medical Centre. Currently, she is in Toronto for a year doing a Fellowship at Sunnybrook in OBGYN. A mother or two, born and raised in Beer-Sheva, she has forged a path merging traditional Bedouin culture and modern Israeli life.
There will also be an opportunity to meet and hear from female BGU alumni who are currently engaged in scientific post doctoral research at UBC and look at the importance and challenges of advancing women in the academia.
Professor Adele Diamond is the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at UBC, a FRSC, and was recently listed as one of the 15 most influential neuroscientists.
