Managing Incidental Findings in Genetic Research

A message from Genome British Columbia:

We are excited to invite you to attend a Genome BC workshop entitled “Managing Incidental Findings in Genetic Research” to be held at the Segal Centre (500 Granville St.) on October 16th, 2013 from 9 am until 4 pm.

This exciting workshop will bring together REB chairs, co-chairs, committee members and administrative staff from across BC to discuss incidental findings in genetic research. The day will involve presentations on current issues facing researchers and REB boards in dealing with IFs, discussion of relevant research ethics considerations, as well as an overview of existing guidelines on managing IFs in the research context (such as TCPS and ACMG guidelines). Following the presentations there will be a facilitated discussion on local and contextual issues for REBs in managing IFs in research. A draft agenda for the day is attached.

We would like to extend an invitation to the workshop to all BC REB chairs/ ORE directors as well as any interested REB committee members – please forward this message to others from the research ethics community you think may be interested in attending.

The workshop will also be available by webinar for those unable to attend in person. Please see attached for details.

There is no charge for this event but space is limited so please register as soon as possible by sending your name, contact details and institution to Diane Salema: dsalema@genomebc.ca

If interested in participating via webinar/teleconference, please indicate this in your registration email and include the email addresses of all interested remote attendees.

We look forward to seeing you then!
