Job Title: Research Coordinator (Job ID: 21538)
Job Summary
The successful applicant will work as a Research Coordinator with the Neuroethics NeuroDevNet team on various neuroethics studies related to neurodevelopmental disorders, ethics, and science policy. The individual will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the Project Team to explore the forces and pressures associated with issues of ethical concern such as stem cell clinical trials, cultural diversity, medical tourism, consent and policy.
Organizational Status
Reports upwards directly to the Director of the National Core for Neuroethics, Dr. Judy Illes. Interacts with Network faculty, research fellows, postdoctoral fellows, graduate research assistants, research assistants, and research interns and administrator.
Work Performed
- Manages and oversees the daily operations of complex projects related to Neuroethics for NeuroDevNet
- Acts as a liaison to the partner Neuroethics site in Montreal, and NeuroDevNet central operations and all related projects.
- Assist the Network investigators to develop research with neuroethics content.
- Designs and implements research using qualitative and quantitative research methods; applies appropriate analytic techniques for content analyses of narrative data and to parametric and nonparametric data
- Develops and manages human subjects approval protocols
- Participates in NeuroDevNet meetings and conference calls as appropriate.
- Prepares meeting summaries, reports, and presentations.
- Plans and participates in Neuroethics group meeting, journal clubs, and seminars.
- Prepares manuscripts for the presentation and publication of research findings.
- Plans and organizes workshops and student training opportunities.
- Actively engages in other scholarly activity that arises from Neuroethics for NeuroDevNet activities and carries out other related duties as required.
Supervision Received
Reports directly to the Director. Works under minimum supervision, receiving specific instructions only on unusual problems or on matters that depart significantly from established policy and procedure.

None given. Successful candidate is expected to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Exercises a considerable amount of judgment, responsibility, and initiative in determining work procedures and methods, and coordinating the work of the project. Any procedure or data record as part of a research study must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. Studies may be jeopardized if not conducted according to ethical requirements as laid out by the University and by regulatory authorities. Study files must be kept secured or patient confidentiality may be compromised.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Masters degree preferred in a relevant discipline with a focus on children, such as biomedical ethics, neuroscience, medical sociology, law, or science policy. Minimum of two years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of qualitative research methodology and design. Ability to effectively use Word, Powerpoint and other Microsoft Office software, and statistical and analytic packages such as NVivo, SPSS, and R statistical software at an advanced level. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting devoted to issues at the intersection of neuroscience and biomedical ethics. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment
